I’ve been wanting to create my own arcade machine for a long time. All the DYI projects I found on the internet were made using wood. So I went to make my own 3d printed version. Let’s go around the things we need:

So, let me present you my design in CAD software:

Click here for the geometry, the link points to my google drive with the solidworks assembly and part file. If you will 3D print this, I suppose that you have access to a CAD software like fusion 360 which is free. If you don’t have access to a CAD software shoot me a comment and I will gladly post them here. I tend to be lazy specially when I think that nobody cares about this blog…

At this point, you have two options:

  • flash SD card with an image of the retropie platform. This is the most easy way and here is the link to that image
  • install retropie directly to your existent raspbian OS, I did this since I was using my raspberry for others projects.

For the second option, do this:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get install git
git clone --depth=1 https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup.git
cd RetroPie-Setup
sudo ./retropie_setup.sh
Assembled side panel

So the rest is up to you… you can look for open source games or code your own game. Or you can head to Piratebay:

♬ Yo, Ho haul together, hoist the colours high ♬
♬ Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we die ♬

And enjoy a good old metal slug game…
